A Gift Idea for the Person Who Doesn’t Want Anything

If you’re looking for a gift idea for the person that doesn’t want anything, you’ve come to the right place. We have quite a few people like this in our lives. And with “gifts” being my love language, it has made things particularly difficult for me at times. That said, I do love a good challenge and I feel like I’ve come up with quite a few gift ideas for the person that doesn’t want anything over the years… But this might just be my best move yet.

My mother in law happens to be one of those people. The one who doesn’t want or need anything (she’s the best. For real). But when her sixtieth birthday rolled around a while ago, my husband and I racked our brains to come up with something special to commemorate the occasion. Something that she would actually love.

Enter: the custom portrait. We sent a few photos of our then infant daughter to a very talented artist (here!). and had her draw up a custom portrait for us. We then had it framed in a beautiful gilded frame (this one!) and gifted it to my mother in law for her birthday. She isn’t even remotely dramatic as a person, but she has since told us on multiple occasions that it was the best gift she’s ever received. Which to me is an absolute slam dunk of a review.

SHOP HOLIDAY DECOR:

It got me thinking, I don’t know many people who wouldn’t love a one of a kind portrait of one of their favourite people. Or place. Or thing. It could be a portrait of a partner, a grandchild, of their childhood home, perhaps. Or heck, a beloved pet or late grandparent. The possibilities are endless.

With gifting season right around the corner, and my yearly holiday gift guides in the works as we speak, I just thought I’d share this special gift idea. It worked beautifully for us, and almost made one of the most difficult people to shop for in our lives tear up! A massive win IMHO.

ps: Jess sweetly drew up options for us to chose from, and then kindly sent us both. So we unintentionally got in on the action as well. It’s a piece I’ll cherish forever.
