I’m a big fan of tiny tables and colorful poufs when it comes to flexible decorating choices. My interior decorating clients for my Colorful Modern project in The Pinehills in Plymouth, MA didn’t want a coffee table because their space is small and their sofa is a recliner – so moving a coffee table wasn’t a great option. They also wanted to have added seating for visitors when needed.
I designed this custom colorful pouf and had my upholstery workroom build it. The pouf is a sturdy wood box that is padded and covered in a fun mix of materials so it can double as a small side table or a seat when needed. I love being have to have custom items made because they can be designed to fit the exact spot and purpose. I even had handles added for easier moving around. And the tiny table is easily moved around the sofa to keep a drink or phone at hand as needed.
The other colorful pouf in the space is less structured and while I can be sat upon – it’s best for children. It also adds a nice pop of color under the console when not needed.
My Duxbury Garden Home interior design clients had a wonderful assortment of antique pieces and this cute carved wood tiny table fit perfectly between the arm chairs. As you can see from the overhead image below – the coffee table works for those sitting on the white sectional sofa but it useless for those in the chairs.
