Do you all recall the Halloween village I made back in September? Well…. surprise, I’ve reinvented it as a Christmas village. I hinted at the end of that post that this would be a great idea and sure enough, it was! This DIY Christmas village is easy to make and adds seasonal touch to any mantel or shelf. It’s made with wood houses, bristle brush trees, and a few additional supplies listed below. You can use any color trees you find to coordinate with your home’s seasonal color palette. I chose cheerful pink, turquoise, and green trees for my little…

Several months ago I started making state shaped ornaments with raw clay at my ceramics studio for a local market where I’m selling art prints and ceramics in early December. Those ceramic ornaments were fired in a kiln, however I thought to myself perhaps I could recreate them with air dry clay for those who don’t have kiln access and the experiment was successful so good news, you can also make these with air dry clay! These are simple to make but they do take a little patience. Air dry clay takes a few days to fully dry so if…

RM: Tell us about the ceramics! DJ: The ceramic dishes are by ARC, and we made the candleholders ourselves out of plaster! We found these amazing handmade tall candles at a small shop in Palma that we loved, and they were such a dynamic addition to the table that we were inspired to make our own holders. We applied the technique I use for mold-making in my work, and together we designed a simple geometric shape that went with the tablescape. We were really pleased with how they turned out. I might even make a ceramic version in the future.…

October is just around the corner and fall is in full swing… it’s nearly time to celebrate one of our more eccentric family holidays: Halloween! Here in the USA this night for remembering the dead has come to be symbolized with all sorts of goblins, ghouls, monsters, witches and monsters, jack’o lanterns and trick-or-treating. It is a DIY craft makers paradise! Whether your Halloween style is kitsch and cutesy or full on macabre, there’s no end of things you can make to decorate your home. With even just a little bit of basic know-how and a heap of imagination, you’d…

I’m big on saving time when it comes to seasonal decorating. I haven’t purchased or created a fall wreath in several years, and since I recently repainted my front door, I wanted a new wreath, one with classic leaf shapes that would suit the style of our home and one I could reuse for a few years. I’m not a fan of busy wreaths with lots of stuff on them, I like one color or tone on tone, the simpler the better works for me. This wreath below is a combination of an existing wreath form with maple leaf sprays…

Hejsan! Scrolling through my usual sites on a Monday morning (along with a Swedish extra strength coffee of course!) I stopped in my tracks when this Swedish home popped up. There were three things that really stood out to me: the soft yet contemporary pink bedroom, the ribbed headboard / half wall that also serves as a shelf and the children’s alcove off the sitting room! Let’s take a closer look! No doubt a former storage cupboard, the parents in this Swedish home have converted an alcove off the sitting room into a children’s playroom. I particularly love the glass…
